There are several mediums in arts that may seem conventional – paintbrushes, canvases, watercolors, sketching pencils, markers, etc. Chalk is not your typical first pick with creating mind-expanding art, however, Lake Worth’s 27th Street Painting Festival proves that one can create art without a definition of conventional or standard.
Street art was born in Italy, during the 16th century. The focus was to capture a visual representation of Mother Mary, otherwise referred to as Madonna (rooting from the Italian word – ma donna meaning ‘my lady’). Madonnari artists traveled from town to town utilizing chalk and pastels to create these iconic images for public viewings. Crowds would gather to awe at the artistic visualizations depicted directly on the streets.
Street artwork diminished greatly during World War II but never completely died. In 1973, the first Madonnari festival took place in Curtatone (located in the province of Mantua, Italy), which streamlined street artwork back to life. Allowing the world to adopt this rare artform into numerous countries, cities and art festivals.
The 27th Street Painting Festival took place in Lake Worth, FL on Saturday (Feb. 21st) to Sunday (Feb. 22nd). SoapTree Media team scoured Lake Ave to find cool and interesting artwork, and it was no surprise, we found plenty of it. Our journey brought us to numerous diverse paintings that encapsulates a wide range of genres – realistic, fantasy, abstract, sci-fi, movies and so much more.
The most fascinating asset to the festival is you can watch artists perform live. Unlike many art galleries, Lake Worth Street Painting allows you to have the chance to speak and engage with the artists as they create their masterpieces.
Beside amazing art, the festival is totally free to explore. A wide selection of food and refreshments is offered as you walk down the avenue soaking in the beautiful sights. And when you finish your travels, you can sit down and relax while live bands serenade the heart of Lake Worth, at the Cultural Plaza.
If you love art or love live events, or just want to get out, Lake Worth Street Painting is an authentic experience that promotes what life is all about – self-expression with no bounds.
